Mandate and Responsibilities

The Department of Infrastructure (INF), as part of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), is responsible for:

  • Environmental assessment and remediation of public infrastructure;
  • Planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public buildings and transportation infrastructure and systems;
  • Strategic planning of public transportation infrastructure and energy production and distribution systems;
  • Property management;
  • Procurement shared services;
  • Information management and technology;
  • Disposal of surplus property and goods;
  • Motor and vehicle services; 
  • Mechanical/electrical regulatory services; 
  • Marine Transportation Services; and
  • Programming aimed at energy conservation and efficiency and reducing energy costs in the Northwest Territories.
