Located at km 243.8 on Highway 3, the Dehk'e Frank Channel Bridge is planned to be replaced to meet traffic demands and eliminate the restrictions for over-dimensional loads enroute to the communities north of the Frank Channel and the mineral-rich Slave Geological province.
Quick Facts
- The existing structure was constructed in 1960 and it still safe for use.
- The overhead truss structure on the existing bridge restricts the transportation of over-dimensioned loads shipped for housing, heavy civil construction, and the industry.
- The approximately 200m long replacement bridge will be located immediately north of the existing structure.
Current Status
- The project is being funded through the National Trade Corridors Fund. The Government of Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories have allocated $52.5 million and $17.5 million, respectively, for the project.
- Tlicho Engineering and Environmental Servies completed road aggregate production in 2024.
- The design contract was awarded to Tłı̨chǫ-Kiewit General Partnership and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
