Frank Channel Bridge Replacement

Located at km 243.8 on Highway 3, the Dehk'e Frank Channel Bridge is planned to be replaced to meet traffic demands and eliminate the restrictions for over-dimensional loads enroute to the communities north of the Frank Channel and the mineral-rich Slave Geological province.

Quick Facts

  • The existing structure was constructed in 1960 and it still safe for use.
  • The overhead truss structure on the existing bridge restricts the transportation of over-dimensioned loads shipped for housing, heavy civil construction, and the industry.
  • The approximately 200m long replacement bridge will be located immediately north of the existing structure.

Current Status

  • The project is being funded through the National Trade Corridors Fund. The Government of Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories have allocated $52.5 million and $17.5 million, respectively, for the project. 
  • Tlicho Engineering and Environmental Servies completed road aggregate production in 2024. 
  • The design contract was awarded to Tłı̨chǫ-Kiewit General Partnership and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
