Located at km 243.8 on Highway 3, the Dehk'e Frank Channel Bridge will be replaced to meet traffic demands and eliminate the restrictions for over-dimensional loads enroute to the communities north of the Frank Channel and the mineral-rich Slave Geological province.
Quick Facts
- The existing structure was constructed in 1960.
- The overhead truss structure on the existing bridge restricts the transportation of over-dimensioned loads shipped for housing, heavy civil construction, and the industry.
- The approximately 200m long replacement bridge will be located immediately north of the exiting structure.
Current Status
- The project is being funded through the National Trade Corridors Fund. The Government of Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories have allocated $52.5 million and $17.5 million, respectively, for the project.
- Road aggregate production started in 2023 and will be completed in 2024.
- Contract negotiation to complete the design is in progress.
- Design is expected to be completed in 2025 with construction following.
