Summer Highway Construction

Summer is a busy time for highway construction across the Northwest Territories. Several construction and maintenance projects are planned to improve infrastructure and ensure safer travel.

Highway 1 - Mackenzie Highway: 

  • Highway surface repairs and chipseal overlay: kms 105-130
  • Rehabilitation work, including embankment widening and drainage improvement: kms 234-244 
  • Highway resurfacing: kms 655-690

Highway 3 - Yellowknife Highway: 

  • Highway surface repairs and chipseal overlay: Km 232-240 and kms 45-100

Highway 4 - Ingraham Trail: 

  • Highway repairs and rehabilitation, including repairing dips, embarkment widening, culvert replacement and chipseal overlay: kms 0-59

Highway 7 - Liard Highway: 

  • Rehabilitation including embarkment widening, aggregate production, right-of-way clearing, ditching, culvert replacement, sub-base, base and chipseal: kms 33.75-39 & highway resurfacing km 69-79. 

Highway 8 - Dempster Highway: 

  • Rehabilitation, including embarkment widening, aggregate production, culverts, replacement, sub-base, and base: km 240-242.
  • Dip and embankment repairs at Rengleng River crossing: km 178
  • Gravel resurfacing: kms 0-237 
  • Application of calcium chloride: kms 70-272.5
  • Highway repairing km 259-269 and Inuvik access road
  • Resurfacing Marine Bypass Road

Highway 10 - Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH):

  • Reconstruction of ITH, including washboards and soft shoulder rehabilitation and raising of low-profile sections, kms 27-90, culvert extensions, and replacement at various locations. 
  • Gravel resurfacing and application of calcium chloride: kms 0 to 138.

Dettah Access Road:

  •  Chipseal overlay Kms 0-11.3

Liard Access Road:

  • Embankment Improvements including chipseal: kms 0-5.3

Various Highways - Bridges and Bridge-Culverts:

  • Redknife River Bridge culvert replacement: km 295.2 (HWY 1)
  • Jean Marie River Bridge replacement: km 412 (HWY 1)
  • Deh Cho Bridge annual cleaning and maintenance: km 24.5 (HWY 3)
  • Dehk’e Frank Channel Bridge replacement: km 243.8 (HWY 3)
  • Bridge culvert replacements: km 40.2, 147.0 and 266.1 (HWY 8)
