The Mackenzie Valley Highway Project entered environmental assessment under the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (MVEIRB) in 2013. MVEIRB issued Terms of reference to the GNWT in 2015.

The GNWT carried out environmental, traditional knowledge, and socio-economic studies, coupled with extensive community engagement, to identify the potential effects and proposed mitigation measures for the Project. A Developer’s Assessment Report was compiled based on the information collected. The Developer’s Assessment Report  was guided by the Terms of Reference and submitted to the MVEIRB in October 2023.
